Welcome New Contributor James!
January 9, 2009

Please welcome our newest and improviest contributor James Stambaugh! James is yet another young man who attended the same college as me for four years, whom I was vaguely aware existed, but never fully realized the awesomeness of until after we’d both graduated and found better things to do.
I like to call James, “The Phoenix.” Why? Well, I’d like to say it’s because his significance in my world has been reborn since we left college or else he enters arguments like a flaming bird of hope but really, it’s just because for a short while I thought he was writing to us from Phoenix, AZ. However, now that I’ve rechecked his Facebook page, I realize he’s actually writing from Albuquerque, New Mexico. But I don’t care, he’s James “The Phoenix” Stambaugh anyway because I found this cool picture of a Phoenix and “The Albuquerque” would be a lame nick name. What is an Albuquerque anyway?
Technically, this means he’s not a “twentysomething, post-evangelical in the Twin Cities,” (which was our schtick at theophiliacs) but that’s ok. He’s a “twentysomething, post-evangelical who once lived in the Twin Cities and may return some day.” Which is probably good enough for me and I administrate this blog, so it’s damn good enough for the rest of you too!

Thanks Reed for the kind welcome. Albuquerque was named for the Spanish Duke of Alburqueque (us gringos later dropped the first “r”), and is therefore sometimes called the Duke City, but I agree, James “The Phoenix” with all its resurrectionatory resonance is way cooler than James “The Duke” which is far too imperial for my taste.
