I had lunch with my mom today and I explained to her a bit about this post. After listening for a few moments she explained to me that she was my Chief Authority and that my whole problem was solved. So with that, I propose a 5th option: V. My Mother As Chief Authority Faith Traditions: The Carlson Family Argument: I gave birth to you! Nice Quote: "I'm the only Authority you'll ever need and when I die you'll be out of luck because you'll have no Authority." - My mother. PROS: 1. Free Spaghetti CONS: 1. A lot to consider!

I make no bones about it, I am Catholic (a revert) as in the end I found no other system of authority made sense to me. We discuss this matter a lot on our blog, and have had some real knock-down, drag-out discussions on Sola Scriptura.
